Modern Art Museum

The cream of 20th century modernism, postmodernism and much more.  The permenant exhibition includes works by Kandinsky, Klee and Pollock, as well as a section dedicated to the Italian futurist movement and its protagonists.  The museum itself is an impressive building with internal courtyards.

Galleria Borghese

Situated on the outskirts of the stupendous Villa Borghese park and just a stone’s throw from the top of the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna this is one of Rome’s most important art galleries.  Originally built as the summer residence of the wealthy Cardinal Scipione Borghese in 1613, it was renovated in the 18th century by Prince Marcantonio Borghese.

At the beginning of the 19th century 200 works of art were sold to Napoleon and to the Louvre gallery in Paris, but by the end of the century many important works had been moved into this gallery from the Borghese palace.

The collection includes some fine examples of Renaissance and neo-classical painting, as well as Bernini sculptures and paintings by some of the most important artists of their era: Caravaggio, Rubens, Reni and more.
