Buses

Since most of Rome relies on over ground transport to get about, buses are generally rather packed.  There is not much seating space, which is probably just as well otherwise a lot more people would be left waiting for the next bus!
Many routes also provide a night bus service, which runs from approx. 12am to 6am.

Metro/bus tickets must be purchased in advance, as you can’t get a ticket on the bus.    They can be bought from tobacconist shops, newspaper kiosks and automatic vending machines at metro and train stations.

Single tickets cost €1 and are valid for 75minutes from the moment you first validate them.  One day tickets cost €4, and a weekly ticket is €16 and monthly ticket is €30. All buses have a few machines for validating tickets, you just put your ticket in the machine and it stamps it with the date and time
