Cycling

Although the vast majority of  Romans who choose to travel on two wheels opt for Vespa type scooters, cycling is a good way to get round the city. Always wear a helmet:  the majority of car drivers are psychotic at the best of times.  Fortunately, there are also plenty designated cycle tracks in Rome such as the North Tevere route, 15km: Castel Giubileo - P.le Maresciallo Giardino- Viale Angelico - Ponte Risorgimento, and the South Tevere route, which is 14.5km. These pleasant routes pass along the Tevere river, and are a great way to enjoy getting some exercise!

Mountain Biking

There are also no shortage of opportunities for getting out of the city and cycling around Rome.  Mountain biking is popular around the Colli Albani, the hills that surround Rome and provide a gateway to the famous Roman castles . Perhaps the best route passes along the ancient Roman road L’Appia Antica
From the Colli Albani, the more adventurous mountain biker can continue towards the famous Castelli Romani, such as Albano, Frascati and Velletri.
