Metro

Rome's metro (la metropolitana) is not very extensive.  The underground metro system currently has two lines, A and B, which cross Rome like an X shape at Rome's main station, Termini.   A third line is currently under construction.  Giving Rome a metro at all has been a difficult task, since the ancient  Roman catacombs form a labyrinth of burial chambers and passage ways that sprawl below the city.

The metro opens at 5.30am every day.  Due to building works the metro currently closes at 9pm, and replacement bus services are in operation. MA1 (Battistini-Arco di Travertino), MA2 (Washington-Anagnina) from 9.00 PM until 11.00 PM every day except Saturday 9.00 PM until 00.30 am

A combined bus/ metro ticket costs €1 and is valid for 75 mins.  One day tickets cost €4, a weekly ticket is €16, and a monthly ticket costs €30.
