Money

As with most of the rest of Europe, Italy has had the Euro for some years now. When changing money into Euros always make sure you get notes of smaller denominations - although €100, €200 and even €500 notes feel great, most places will refuse to change them for you.  And of course, its always sensible to divide your money.  When the Euro was first introduced, there was a scam in Rome:  €1000 notes were being circulated (That's about 700 UK pounds).  But of course, €1000 notes don't actually exist!

Banks are usually open from 8.30 to 1.30 and from 2.30- 4pm from Monday to Friday. There are plenty of banks and bureaus de change in Rome. International creditcards such as Mastercard, Visa, American Express, etc, are universallyacceptable.
