Skiing

When the winter arrives, it’s time to find a snow topped mountain and hit the ski slopes.  The most important ski resorts in Italy are in the North.  For example, the Trentino region of the Dolomites has some of the most impressive and well organised ski resorts, not to mention some of the most beautiful.  These mountains are accessible from the towns of Verona, Venice, Treviso and Bergamo, to name a few.  For more information, check the page www.dolomiti.com.

Another important ski resort, although slightly more pricey, is Courmayer in the Val d’ Aosta.  This is in the Alps on the border with France.  The infamous tunnel leading from Courmayeur to Chamonix in France has now been reopened, giving wasy access for those who wish to ski in the Mont Blanc area.

Closer to Rome there is the Roccaraso resort in Sulmona. This is located in the South-East of the Costa Calda, on a central route connecting the Centre and South of Italy. With a total of 70 runs over 110km divided between easy blue runs, medium red runs and killer black runs it’s an ideal destination for a white weekend break.  For more information contact the Tourist Office on +39(0) 864 622 10

All the resorts have plenty equipment hire outlets for skis, boots, snowboards.  Skipasses and insurance can be bought on site.  Be safe and have fun!
