Piazza Trevi and the Fountain

Bernini's masterpiece that attracts thousands of people every day. The legend says that by throwing a coin into its waters you will come back to Rome!

Piazza Navona

Oblong shaped, with fountains either side.  When concerns were voiced to the architect Bernini that the buidings he had erected alongside this piazza didn't seem stable, he replied by creating a statue in one of the fountains with an outstreched hand, apparantly to hold the buildings up!  There is usually a market here, as well as and artists and street entertainers.  A great place to stop for a coffee or ice cream, and to meet friends.

Piazza del Popolo

At one end of the famous shopping street Via Del Corso, this huge space is dominated by an ancient Egyptian obelisk, and two beautiful "twin" churches, on either side of the entrance to the square.  It also serves as a gateway to the park of Villa Borghese, which is to the right.

Campo dei Fioriin

The morning there is a huge fruit, vegetable , and flower market.  As people start sitting down for lunch in the restaurants and bars whose tables line the sides of this square, the market is cleared away.  There are some beautiful historic houses nearby, including Piazza Farnese.  The square comes alive again at night.
